Homage to Impressionism

The Lake District, not just in England but everywhere, has all the ingredients of the Third day: light and shade, height and depth, land and water. My poem is not a true sonnet; several lines have 6 beats, as for the syllable count . . !

REPRISE : THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRICT Homage to Impressionism –

World of mystery, where land and water
Tiptoe along the brink, to mingle in magic.
Mist smokes through the trees. The scene grows shorter
Closed off by curtains of rain, suddenly tragic;

Then lifting. Peep-oh to the sunshine! flashing
In rippling swathes across the lake. Grey
Drapes the hills in moving clouds, splashing
The scattered sunlight again. Oh, mixed-up magical day!

And the peace, the peace of land and water,
Watching the light and shade among the hills:
Moments of gold, breezes from another quarter;
Gaps grey, then sunlit; showers the moment spills;

Trees kissing the sky, welcome the gentle rain;
Trickles to the lake; then sparkling sunshine again.
